Road Trip

It's The Thought That Counts
Friday, December 12th was going to be a very exciting day for one of our pastors. Tom was graduating from Seminary. Several weeks ago Kenny and I decided to go up and see him graduate with some of our friends. We were going to do this as surprise. And the story begins...

We left out bright and early around 6:15. The air was crisp and there was a fresh snow on the ground. This probably should of been our first sign that this was going to be an interesting day.

As we pulled onto the main road and made our way to I-24 we knew that this was going to be a little tricky. We had heard earlier on the news that once you made it to downtown Nashville the roads were clear. Here is when the craziness begins. I am going to tell this part the same way I posted it on Facebook as Kenny drove.

  • Debbie can't get out of Smyrna!!! the roads are horrible. 7:04
  • Debbie can't get out of Smyrna!!! the roads are horrible. 7:22
  • Debbie has been sitting in the same spot for about 30 minutes!!! 7:54
  • Debbie thinks road trips are suppose to be fun!?!?! 7:56
  • Debbie Ten car pile up...turning around :( ! 8:1o
  • Debbie hates Nolensville Rd. 8:38
  • Debbie 65 is free and clear and Kenny is moving on!!! 9:07
At 9:07 we had been on the road for nearly three hours and we were just to downtown Nashville. By this time I was determined we were going to get there I didn't care how long it took.

Kenny looked at me and said "honey I know you don't like for me to go fast but if we don't we will never make it." Remember we are trying to get there by 11:30. Let the races begin! Bobbing and weaving there is nothing going to stop us. Kenny tells us we need to get gas he thinks there is probably just enough for us roll in on fumes...do we stop??? No we are on a mission. I don't know if you have ever seen that Seinfeld episode where Elaine is trying to get her boyfriend to the Airport...that was us.

Everything went like clockwork. We rolled in there at 11:20 thinking YES! we have made it. We found a parking spot really quick. (This should of been a sign.) Walking quickly to the chapel because you know I have been in a car for 5 hours now and I need a pit stop before the service. We start passing people coming toward us. I say, "Do you think we missed it?" Kenny and Tommy both say no it starts at 11:30 this must be another group of graduates. The closer we get the more concerned I get. We get to the Chapel. There are a few folks here and there. Kenny asks one of the ladies at the door about the graduation and she says, "I was over at 11:15." Well come to find out we had the time wrong and there was a time change. Ha!!!!Ha!!!!

Five hours in a car battling all kinds of obstacles, lots of good conversation, wonderful time in Louisville and an amazing hamburger in Indiana. Laughing with our friends Tom and Amanda...Priceless.

The restaurant that we ate at was Buckheads. This was were Tom and Amanda had there first date. This was the table they sat at on that date.
