We all have a gift...

7 A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. 8 To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. 9 The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. 10 He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said. 11 It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have - 1Corinthians 12:7-11 (NLT)

We all are given a spiritual gift. It may not just appear to us out of the blue. My husband said something in Sunday Morning Bible Study this past week that just slapped me in the face. (Not really but sometimes I have to have cold water thrown on me to get it) He said, "If you are not sure what your gift is...Ask?" Talk to God and find out what it is...It is so easy and we make it so hard.

Have a great weekend!

Blessed to get the question...

I am sure by now you have heard the story about Miss California and her statement about gay marriage. Carrie Prejean stated in the question and answer part of the pageant that she did not believe in gay marriage. This was a statement that I did not expect from Miss California but the statements that surprised me even more were the statements she made yesterday on the Neil Cavuto show on Fox. Wow! What a grounded young lady.

Coffeeeeee!

Just a short story this morning to give anyone that is a coffee lover a smile. I guess I should say an addicted coffee lover a smile. As the alarm was going off this morning Kenny says to me did you get coffee yesterday. Ahhhhh No I didn't know that we were out. Well...don't know how it is in your house but we don't do so well without coffee in the morning. (Understatement!!!)

I jumped up and put my clothes on, brushed my teeth and headed out the door. Right behind us is two gas stations that open up early so maybe I won't have to go to the grocery store. First station is not open yet so I go across the street where I see lights. I fly through the door and go to searching. I must of looked panicked because when I finally asked where the coffee was the young man behind the counter come out to show me. As we went down the isle and he realized what I had already knew he got a funny look on his face. I must of looked wild. He took me around the corner where they have their coffee pots to see if they had any on that side...NOTHING. By this time my heart is pounding. I have decided that I am going to buy one of those huge insulated mugs and that should get us through until we can make it some where to get some this morning. The nice young man turns and says to me "How about if I just give you some of ours to get you through until you get to the store?" Wow! I couldn't hardly believe how nice he was. As I left there with my little baggy of coffee and a smile on my face a lady that was dressed very nicely kinda looked me up and down. I thought to myself ,"I know I look terrible."
Little did I know...as I was getting into the car I saw something in the rear view mirror...MY HAIR!!!! I hadn't brushed my HAIR!!!! All I can say is thank God I put my clothes on or this could of been an incident you heard about on the evening news.

Have a great Day!

Eggs, Gambrel and Rocks????

As you can tell I like to change my blog to fit my mood or the season. Well today LeeLou blogs put up their new free 3 column templates and of course I had to change. I look like a Easter egg. Not liking it...at all! I am going to leave it for a day or two but don't be surprised if "bam" its gone.

Moving on...This past week has been a tough one for me. I started out the week floating but very exhausted. He knew that this week was going to be a challenge. As always God provides what we need when we need it. There is always a phone call, an email a blog response or a face book funny that comes from one of my buds that keeps me going. I can't help but know that this is God!

On top of everything else going on in our lives Brent Gambrel challenged me over the weekend. Like I needed anything else to stress about. I am one of those folks he talked about. You know the ones that have been in church most of my life. One of those people that have had the word of God poured into me every Sunday morning, Sunday evening and Wednesday evening. I am one of those people that is so full that I am about to bust at the seems. I guess I am afraid to share any of my good news. I have all of this good stuff inside me and for some reason I don't want to share. I have never really been selfish or at least I didn't think I was selfish...but giving money, food, clothes or my time will never make up for the times that I have missed in the past 25 years to tell others about God. Brent told us to be a funnel. Take in and then pour out to all of those around us. If not we become stagnant.

57As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, "I will follow you wherever you go."
58Jesus replied, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head." 59He said to another man, "Follow me." But the man replied, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father." 60Jesus said to him, "Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God." 61 Still another said, "I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say good-by to my family." 62Jesus replied, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God." - Luke 9:57-62

Once again God has revealed to me that the decisions I have made over the past year have all been for him. I have thought many times why fool with this...And always God shows me why. Thank God for in our times of weakness He is always there to get us through.

One last thing today...this past week my status on facebook was "God always provides. It may not be what we want but it is always what we need. Amen!" Teri, a friend of mine from church commented, "Does this mean you got a rock instead of a diamond?" I laughed so hard I am glad no one was around they would of thought I was crazy. When God gives me rocks...I should know what to do with them...Kenny is the Rock Man!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday. Be the funnel!!!

I have issues!!!!!

Hi! My name is Debbie and I am a blogger and I think I need help. lol!!! I know that this is not a real disease but it does take up a lot of my life. I find myself blogging in the middle of the night and just about every free moment that I have. Life around the Noland house is pretty busy but instead of this being a chore blogging to me is more like therapy. I love, love, love keeping up with friends, seeing friends kids pics, doing Bible Studies, showing pictures of my family, showing pictures of my church family, discussing growing pains of a new church, getting feedback, and just meeting new people. Check out and see how addicted you are you might be surprised.

25 Random Things

Two weeks ago one of my friends (Kelley) tagged me in 25 Random Things on facebook. I wrote it out and low and behold I pressed the wrong button and lost it in cyber world. I was so frustrated that I just quit until another friend (Niki) tagged me. I have truly enjoyed reading about all of my friends on facebook. So today I am going to tag you. You might be surprised what you find out about your friends and what they find out about you.

25 Random Things

1. I was born in Chitose Japan.
2. I was a flower girl in an Ethiopian wedding.
3. I climbed the Leaning Tower of Pisa with my dad. It was one of the most exciting and scary things I have ever done.
4. I loved the story about Anne Frank and when I was in 4th grade I got to go to her house.
5. I visited the Eagles Nest where Hitler lived in Austria.
6. I had gone to 7 schools by the time I finished 8th grade.
7. I went to kindergarten twice. No, it wasn't because I failed. I was to young to go to first grade. 8. I was an Army Brat and proud of it. That explains the places above.
9. At the end of my eighth grade year my dad got orders to move to Honolulu Hawaii. To my disappointment he turned them down. He wanted me to go to the same High School for four years and we were only going to be there 2 years. Instead he moved us back to Cumberland County. Ozone Tennessee. Population 200. Little did I know that the love of my life would be there. (Thanks Dad!)
10. I met Kenny in 9th grade in photography class. We dated in 10th and part of 11th grade.
11. I was a cheerleader in 10th, 11th and 12th grade. I was the co-captain my senior yr. I guess this is where Kacey gets the cheer leading bug.
12. The summer before my senior year I had a car wreck. I flipped my car, it threw me out and the car rolled over me. I landed in a mud puddle and I have always thought that God put that mud puddle there to save me. I spent 3 weeks in UT hospital.
13. I went to beauty school in Oakridge TN. During this time I had some really stupid hair cuts.
14. Kenny and I met up again in the fall of 86' it took us about 2 week to decide that we wanted to get married. We were married on November 15, 1986.
15. We ran a pool hall and game room.
16. I love Long Island, New York and New York City.
17. By 1991 we had gotten out of church and the Lord sent Kenny, me and his whole family to Hawaii to teach us a lesson. He put us in the most beautiful place in the world and made us miserable. Long story short there is only two Southern Baptist Churches in Hawaii and one of them was in walking distance of our house. Once we were back in church and following the Lord again He let us come back to Tennessee. Some great memories but I have never had the desire to go back to Hawaii.
18. We ran a tanning salon. Loved being brown, loved the people but hated the hours.
19. Don't tell my girls but they are a lot like me. I didn't want my mom to tell me that either. I am a lot like her.
20. I carried Alycia 3 weeks over and I had her in an emergency c-section.
21. I slept in a baby hospital bed for a week when Kacey had RSV.
22. I have the most amazing group of friends at my church. Godly good women.
23. I am a country music nut. We go to Fan Fair every year and act like tourists. If you see us that week please ignore the cowboy hats.
24. The older I get the more I know that it is not about the stuff you have...it is about family, friends and most importantly God.
25. I am crazy about my Lord and Savior Jesus!! I hope you are too. God is so Good!

That time of year...

I have been contemplating a DIET. Heavy emphasis on contemplating. That word is so scary to me. It seems like I do it every year at this time. I obviously have no self control or this wouldn't be a yearly problem. I was blog surfing and I think I found the answer to my problems and maybe yours.

I think I could get used to this exercise routine if the scale is not too heavy!! Haha!!

Heartfelt

I truly believe that God will bring you completely to your knees to get your attention. If you are a child of God and you have fallen away from him He is constantly drawing you to him. He is like every good daddy out there trying to lead his children in their journeys. He wants you with Him not out in the world meandering around. I have been brought to my knees many times in my short 41 years. We are all human and God knows we have our weaknesses. For this very reason we must always stay in the word and have a constant relationship with Him. I know right now you are thinking where is she going with this. Nowhere to tell you the truth. No confessions and no big drawn out stories. Just a heartfelt reminder in this joyous CHRISTmas season to pray a hedge of protection on your families and to stay connected to the One that has given us the greatest gift of all...Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

Be thankful for all your blessings. They can be taken away so quickly.

Road Trip

It's The Thought That Counts
Friday, December 12th was going to be a very exciting day for one of our pastors. Tom was graduating from Seminary. Several weeks ago Kenny and I decided to go up and see him graduate with some of our friends. We were going to do this as surprise. And the story begins...

We left out bright and early around 6:15. The air was crisp and there was a fresh snow on the ground. This probably should of been our first sign that this was going to be an interesting day.

As we pulled onto the main road and made our way to I-24 we knew that this was going to be a little tricky. We had heard earlier on the news that once you made it to downtown Nashville the roads were clear. Here is when the craziness begins. I am going to tell this part the same way I posted it on Facebook as Kenny drove.

  • Debbie can't get out of Smyrna!!! the roads are horrible. 7:04
  • Debbie can't get out of Smyrna!!! the roads are horrible. 7:22
  • Debbie has been sitting in the same spot for about 30 minutes!!! 7:54
  • Debbie thinks road trips are suppose to be fun!?!?! 7:56
  • Debbie Ten car pile up...turning around :( ! 8:1o
  • Debbie hates Nolensville Rd. 8:38
  • Debbie 65 is free and clear and Kenny is moving on!!! 9:07
At 9:07 we had been on the road for nearly three hours and we were just to downtown Nashville. By this time I was determined we were going to get there I didn't care how long it took.

Kenny looked at me and said "honey I know you don't like for me to go fast but if we don't we will never make it." Remember we are trying to get there by 11:30. Let the races begin! Bobbing and weaving there is nothing going to stop us. Kenny tells us we need to get gas he thinks there is probably just enough for us roll in on fumes...do we stop??? No we are on a mission. I don't know if you have ever seen that Seinfeld episode where Elaine is trying to get her boyfriend to the Airport...that was us.

Everything went like clockwork. We rolled in there at 11:20 thinking YES! we have made it. We found a parking spot really quick. (This should of been a sign.) Walking quickly to the chapel because you know I have been in a car for 5 hours now and I need a pit stop before the service. We start passing people coming toward us. I say, "Do you think we missed it?" Kenny and Tommy both say no it starts at 11:30 this must be another group of graduates. The closer we get the more concerned I get. We get to the Chapel. There are a few folks here and there. Kenny asks one of the ladies at the door about the graduation and she says, "I was over at 11:15." Well come to find out we had the time wrong and there was a time change. Ha!!!!Ha!!!!

Five hours in a car battling all kinds of obstacles, lots of good conversation, wonderful time in Louisville and an amazing hamburger in Indiana. Laughing with our friends Tom and Amanda...Priceless.

The restaurant that we ate at was Buckheads. This was were Tom and Amanda had there first date. This was the table they sat at on that date.

I got it...

Drum roll please...The new ESV Study Bible!

I have been salivating for at least a month now. I have read about it, watched the video, read all of the reviews, told the kids I wanted it, told Kenny I wanted it, commented on it every time I saw it so that hopefully I would get it for my birthday. I think my family was sick of hearing me talk about it or at least Kenny was tired of hearing all of my oooh's and aaah's. Monday I got my birthday present 23 days early. Today was my first full day with the new ESV and I did not want to put it down. My kids were sick today so I had to love on them but if they had been healthy they would of been on their own. By the way Kenny loves it also. I think he will be getting his own soon. I guess I will be nice and share until then.

Check it out! The ESV Study Bible is amazing!

5 days and counting...

Potato's...

Five days until one of my favorite holidays. Thanksgiving seems to be less stress for me. I don't have to cook at my house so I don't have to stress about my house being clean. I have exactly 25 days left before I have to stress about my house being clean.

Maker of yeast rolls. YUM!!!
We all go to Jan's house and cook Thanksgiving dinner. We have green beans (usually Granny Noland's canned green beans), mashed potato's, Uncle Dap's famous twice baked potato's, marshmallow sweet potato's, almond sweet potato's, Granny Jan's dressing, home made yeast rolls, cranberry sauce and of course turkey. I guess you can see that we love potato's. Everyone has a favorite and one year we tried to make just one and that really back fired. That will never happen again! Who would think a person could get so upset over potatoes?

I am getting ready to go to the store...guess what I am buying? POTATO'S

Hmmm.....

Jan sent me this e-mail and I have to confess to you I am probably guilty of a few of these. I have a Blackberry and yes, yes, yes! they are addictive. I do panic if I can't find my phone but I also panic if I can't find my Bible. Kenny got me my last Bible its an ESV and I love, love, love it.

Cell Phone vs. Bible

Ever wonder what would happen if we treated our Bible like we treat our cell phone??

What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets?
What if we flipped through it several time a day?
What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it?
What if we used it to receive messages from the text?
What if we treated it like we couldn't live without it?
What if we gave it to Kids as gifts?
What if we used it when we traveled?
What if we used it in case of emergency?
This is something to make you go....hmm...where is my Bible?
And no dropped calls!

Lets Dance...

This morning I received an e-mail from a friend that took me back to my early years of marriage. My dear Grandma Grogan said something to me that has stuck in my mind but I don't know if I have used her advice wisely. She told me, "Honey don't ever put off things with your family because your house is a mess, that messy house will be there when you are dead and gone. Enjoy every minute you have now before it is too late. You never know when the Lord will call you home." The e-mail below also got me to thinking about Grandma...something I hadn't done in a while. A lot of good memories and stories I need to share with the girls.

Will You Dance With Me?
Too many people put off something that brings them joy just because they haven't thought about it or don't have it on their schedule. I got to thinking one day about all those women on the Titanic who passed up dessert at dinner that fateful night in an effort to cut back. From then on, I've tried to be a little more flexible. How often have your kids dropped in to talk and sat in silence while you watched 'Jeopardy' on television? I cannot count the times I called my sister and said, 'How about going to lunch in a half hour?' She would gas up and stammer, 'I can't. I have clothes on the line. My hair is dirty. I wish I had known yesterday, I had a late breakfast, It looks like rain.' And my personal favorite: 'It's Monday.' She died a few years ago. We never did have lunch together. My lips have not touched ice cream in 10 years. I love ice cream. The other day, I stopped the car and bought a triple-Decker. If my car had hit an iceberg on the way home, I would have died happy. Now...go on and have a nice day. Do something you WANT to......not something on your SHOULD DO list. If you were going to die soon and had only one phone call you could make, who would you call and what would you say? And why are you waiting? Ever told your child, 'We'll do it tomorrow.' And in your haste, not see his sorrow? Ever lost touch? Let a good friendship die? Just call to say 'Hi? When you worry and hurry through your day, it is like an unopened gift....Thrown away..... Life is not a race Take it slower. Hear the music before the song is over. 'Life may not be the party we hoped for... but while we are here we might as well dance!

I shortened this quite a bit but I am sure you all can put things in your life into this e-mail. Life is to short and for some reason (unknown to me) we keep going like hamsters on a wheel.

Today lets dance!!
